AdderView AVX1016-US 16-Port CATx KVMA Switch, Single User

Product Overview

The AdderView AVX1016-US is a 16-port CATx KVM switch that gives a single local user BIOS-level control of up to 16 multi-platform servers over neat CATx cabling. Part of the ADDERView CATx 1000 series, this rack KVM switch for server rooms combines a USB console, high-quality VGA video, and optional CD-quality audio in a compact, high-density chassis. For IT managers comparing a 16-port KVMA switch over CATx against bulky legacy KVM cabling, the AVX1016 reduces cable clutter while supporting PS/2, USB, and Sun hosts through interchangeable Computer Access Modules (CAMs).

Product Description

The ADDERView CATx 1000 architecture connects each server to the switch with a single CATx cable and a small CAM dongle at the computer end, available in PS/2, USB, Sun, and DisplayPort variants with optional audio. This approach keeps racks tidy and lets mixed server estates Windows, Linux, macOS, and Sun OS share one console.

Video performance reaches 1600 x 1200 at 85Hz with DDC emulation and DC balancing for accurate color, so administrators retain a sharp picture even on legacy VGA server consoles. The integrated CATx extender allows the console to be located up to 300m away using an ADDERLink X100 or X200 receiver, which means the operator does not need to sit in the noisy, cold server room. When audio-enabled CAMs are used, the switch carries 44.1kHz digital stereo audio alongside keyboard, video, and mouse.

Scaling is handled by cascading: link units with CATx cable and the switch automatically detects the cascade, supporting control of up to 256 computers. Up to 16 user profiles with per-user access rights provide administrative control over who can reach which host. An options port adds RS232 power-switch integration for hard reboots, flash upgrades, synchronization with other CATx 1000 switches for multi-video applications, and remote control. Two units fit in 1U of rack space for a density of 32 ports per 1U, and the small chassis also mounts neatly behind KVM rack drawers. Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need at each computer to connect it to the AVX1016?
Each host requires a Computer Access Module (CAM). Options include CATX-USB / CATX-USB-A (VGA + USB, with or without audio), CATX-PS2 / CATX-PS2-A, CATX-SUNA, and CATXDPUSBA for DisplayPort hosts. CAMs are sold separately.

Can I operate the switch from outside the server room?
Yes. The built-in CATx extender works with an ADDERLink X100 or X200 receiver so the keyboard, monitor, and mouse can sit up to 300m away over CATx cable.

Does the AVX1016 support audio?
Yes, optionally. When audio-enabled CAMs are used, the switch passes 44.1kHz digital stereo audio to the console’s 3.5mm jack.

How do I expand beyond 16 computers?
Cascade additional CATx 1000 switches using CATx cable. Cascade connections are detected automatically and the system scales to 256 computers.

Is the switch compatible with mixed operating systems?
Yes. It supports all commonly known platforms including Windows, Linux, macOS, and Sun OS, with full keyboard re-mapping for cross-platform use.

Can it be rack mounted?
Yes. Single (RMK4S) and dual (RMK4D-R2) rack kits are available; two switches fit in 1U for up to 32 ports per rack unit.
