James Loudspeaker AT42-70 4″ 2-Way All-Terrain Speaker -70v

Product Overview

The James Loudspeaker AT42-70 is a 4-inch 70V outdoor landscape speaker built for commercial distributed-audio systems that run across patios, grounds, and exterior gathering areas. This all-terrain outdoor speaker pairs a coaxially mounted 0.75-inch aluminum dome tweeter with a high-excursion 4-inch aluminum woofer and an onboard 50W toroidal transformer, so multiple units can run on a single 70-volt line. Its aircraft marine-grade aluminum enclosure is engineered for years of reliable performance in harsh outdoor environments. A 4-ohm version is available as the AT42-4.

Product Description

The AT Series all-terrain design uses a coaxially mounted 0.75-inch aluminum dome tweeter over a proprietary high-excursion 4-inch woofer with an aluminum cone and Santoprene surround. A built-in crossover network and the low-loss 50W toroidal 70V transformer let this 70 volt landscape speaker play at higher volumes while holding a smooth 80 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response across long speaker runs. The dual enclosure and perforated grille are constructed from aircraft aluminum with a severe powder-coat finish, so the speaker resists moisture, UV, and temperature swings in full outdoor exposure.

Because it operates on a 70V line, the AT42-70 is well suited to commercial distributed audio systems where many speakers share a single amplifier channel hospitality grounds, restaurant and bar patios, and campus walkways. The speaker is offered in Black Wrinkle, Bronze Wrinkle, Verde, and Weathered Iron, with premium finishes and plating available to match landscape and architectural surroundings. Mounting hardware is sold separately: an 18-inch ground stake (Model AT.STAKE.18) for in-ground placement, or a tree/wall mount (Model AT.42/62.MOUNT) for fixed surfaces. For smaller zones or lower-output areas, compare the 3-inch AT32-70.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AT42-70 connect to an amplifier?
It uses an onboard 50W low-loss toroidal transformer for 70V distributed audio. Wire multiple AT42-70 units in parallel on a single 70-volt amplifier channel, keeping the total tapped wattage within the amplifier’s rated output.

When should I choose the 70V version over the 4-ohm AT42-4?
Choose the AT42-70 for long cable runs and multi-speaker zones served by one amplifier channel. For a small number of speakers on a dedicated channel, the low-impedance AT42-4 is typically the better fit.

How is the speaker mounted outdoors?
Mounting hardware is sold separately. Use the 18-inch ground stake (AT.STAKE.18) for planting beds and landscape placement, or the tree/wall mount (AT.42/62.MOUNT) for trees, posts, and exterior walls.

Is it rated for full outdoor exposure?
Yes. The aircraft marine-grade aluminum enclosure, perforated aluminum grille, aluminum-cone woofer with Santoprene surround, and severe powder-coat finish are built to withstand harsh outdoor environments year-round.

What finishes are available for landscape integration?
Black Wrinkle, Bronze Wrinkle, Verde, and Weathered Iron are standard, with premium finishes and plating available to order so the speaker blends into landscape and architectural surroundings.

What warranty and support are available?
